Essential Question
What can we do to minimize the Opioid addiction and misuse crisis facing the US today? How can the system change be to handle the pressure placed by the Affordable Care Act?
Summary:
Educate medical providers on how to review MAPS using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system via a simulation in a contained environment.
Objectives
  • Demonstrate how to access the State of Michigan MAPS program directly through EPIC (EHR) computer system.
  • Demo on the computer steps to access MAPS using EPIC application systems in a classroom setting .
  • Create eLearning video to reinforce the demo steps.
  • Create an exercise in the training environment where learners (doctors) will be able to access the system and go through the steps themselves. (protects real patient information)

Tasks:
1. Presenter will present through digital vehicle a descriptions be the main steps to get MAPS information from the
State of Michigan

2. Student will have hands on opportunity to use the computer to get MAPS information.
  • Launch MAPS directly from a patient chart and be able to look at patient last 5 prescriptions
  • Provide information to patients about Opioid assistance.
  • Be able to access the State of Michigan site on Opioids

3. Learners will create a communication brochure and or eLearning module.

4. Learners (Doctors) will be able to provider feedback.

Personalization/Differentiation
June 1st MAPS review will be mandated by the State of Michigan every prescriber who prescribes controlled substance prescriptions Schedule 2-5 will have to run the MAPS review to identify patients who could possibly be abusers of prescription medications.

  • This work is important because there is a real life crisis affecting our human lives and this step to improve the manner in which prescriptions are prescribed is very relevant.
  • The target audience is anyone human being who could be potential abusers of controlled substances that are claiming the life of our loved ones on a daily bases.
  • Get the word out though communication during and after patient doctor appointments and discharge from the hospital.

Assessment:
  • Through audits, we will be able to determine how effective this method is as well as monitor the Opioid usage by patients.
